Meet the Kids who star in New tv series
ALEX, ANNIE & BRANDON star in New TV Series-Wild Kids
In late September the G Marsh tv team visited Ballina to film three kids as they explored the beautiful Belleek Woods. The insightful series gives parents and kids lots of ideas on how to explore the abundance of nature that surrounds us.
On their adventure Alex, Annie & Brandon learned about the native Irish trees and the wildlife that inhabit them…Searching for the red squirrels was a highlight of the day and it was so evident the love of nature that these children possess…A breath of fresh air in today’s world. All are students of Fiona Bourke School of Speech & Drama Ballina.
Alex Bourke-Ginty (6) is son of Fiona Bourke & Oisin Ginty, Enniscrone Road. Alex has a huge passion for nature and animals and really enjoys exploring in the outdoors. The filming in Belleek woods was extra special for Alex as his grandad Sean Bourke, grew up in Belleek spending his childhood years on daily adventures through the woods. An original “Wild Kid of Belleek”, Sean has shared many stories with Alex about the woods as he knew it . He recalls all the large native trees and green fields that once was Belleek woods. In those days it was home to thousands of pheasants and birdlife. Becketts owned the estate at that time.
Annie Fleming (6) is daughter of Martha & Peter Fleming, Ballina. Annie is a polite, gregarious confident and inquisitive child who enjoys lots of outdoor activities.
Brandon Newmann (6) son of Patricia and Martie Newmann, Kilfian, Ballycastle, is a boy with huge personality and a great sense of humour. He loves communicating with young and old and hence is widely known in his local community. He loves being outdoors, helping on the farm and loves to care for animals and all wildlife in general.
Special thanks to the GMarsh team, Gillian Marsh, Paula Rouse (a Ballina native), John Lusby, Ciara Dolan, Andy Smyth, Hannah Jane Churchmann for affording the opportunity to showcase Belleek and to Cyril Collins for his work on introducing the native Irish red squirrel to Belleek.
The episode on Belleek Woods will be shown on RTE jr November 21st @ 11.45 and 2.55.

Fiona Bourke School of Speech & Drama student stars in an Acting role as Nuala in new TV Series!! www.fionabourkeschool.ie
Caoilfhinn Geoghegan (6) from Castleconnor has landed the lead role of Nuala in the pilot of the same name. Caoilfhinn applied to audition on the advice of her speech and drama teacher Fiona Bourke with whom she has been a student since the age of three. Caoilfhinn is daughter of Michelle Lavelle and Enda Geoghegan, Castleconnor.
Cinetex, the independent production company who are making the pilot, held auditions for the roles and saw over 150 children over three days in Westport and Tourmakeady. The standard was incredible and the producers then had the unenviable task of whittling it down to the final three.
A number of students from the Fiona Bourke School in both Ballina & Belmullet auditioned and we are so proud at the number of our students who made it to the final ten..Huge achievement and one we are extremely proud of!!
The weekend of 4th-6th December will see the pilot episode of ‘Nuala’, a children’s TV drama, being filmed on location in Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo. The drama is set in the West of Ireland and revolves around a family with three young daughters. The story is told through the eyes of the youngest daughter Nuala
Kayla Browne (10) and Ella Browne(9), who are real life sisters and will play Nuala’s older sisters Roisin and Ailbhe, hail from Castlebar. The well-known Galway actress Tara Breathnach (Tina in Ros na Rún, A Nightingale Falling, The Last Days of Anne Boleyn) is playing the role of their mammy.
Niamh Gleeson, who has written the series, is originally from Dublin but lives in Tourmakeady and is relishing showcasing the amazing West of Ireland talent and landscape.
Gaiety School Team up with Fiona Bourke School
Speech & Drama for another exciting workshop
Fiona Bourke School of Speech, Drama and the Gaiety School of Acting have once again teamed up for another memorable Acting Course.
Fair City actor Alan Howley was hugely impressed by the standard of the school…
‘I did three workshops with young people from The Fiona Bourke School of Speech and Drama in May of this year.
I found Fiona fantastic, and brilliant with the kids and I got a real sense of a happy school that works hard but has fun too.
In all three workshops I found the young people were charming, outgoing, confident and enthusiastic.
The benefits of attending the school could really be seen in the teenager’s workshop however. They were keen, had a good awareness of what makes a good performer and what makes good drama. I saw some real talent – but more importantly saw teenagers who were generous with each other and had a good sense of themselves. A great day – and a real pleasure to be welcomed to such a thriving school.’
Congratulations to all of our students who took part in Irish Board of Speech & Drama acting and Public Speaking Exams..2015
What wonderful reports and results…Well Done!! So proud of you all!!!
